We have historical museums and monuments to visit that can take us back into the past for an inspirational journey. There are wonderful restaurants to taste the flavours from around the world. We have people from different walks of life and various cultures that we can experience and learn from. Then there is the internet and telephone from which we can connect to people at the other end of the earth in a split second.

There were hoards of people and it seemed that there were mostly tourists. I wanted to find out how bad retails sales were in relation to last year and what the thoughts were from shop assistants about the credit crunch.

Timing in the markets as with anything in life is important. Get it wrong and it can cost us more than we would like to pay. And in some cases it seems that events happen later than usual. Take for example that we are approaching the end of November and almost into December. Typically we would be facing very cold spells with sleet and heavy rain. Sure we have cold weather you can say but it’s happening later than usual and not as cold as one would expect for this time of the year.

Usually people ask me for an opinion on where I think the market is going. I will often refrain from answering that question. This is then followed by a more intelligent question of how I think as a trader and what is my thought process? And I tell them that I have never believed that the markets are random. To me the markets are full of patterns. There are distinct patterns when the markets are rallying to the upside and then there are clear cut patterns to the downside.
